Hello, welcome!
My name's Jess, thank you for stopping by. Loom is a hand-dyed yarn and fibre studio based in Somerset in the South West of England. I have a passion for moody, muted shades, be it a gentle speckle or a rich and saturated tonal.
I learnt to knit after graduating from uni in 2007. After 4 years in finance I left to pursue freelance opportunities in publishing; designing, writing, producing photography and videography projects for craft magazines.
Alongside this work, I began sewing a handmade wardrobe and learnt to dye yarn in 2017 to supplement my outfits and, with some newfound inspiration, I started Loom a few years later in 2019.
If you'd like to follow me, or have any questions you can find me on Instagram, Ravelry and YouTube, or you can email: hello@loomwool.co.uk.

Small Batch
Each skein is created in a slow and thoughtful manner in my studio in Somerset. Small batches ensure I can control each step of the process. I primarily use acid dyes but also enjoy gardening and experimenting with natural dyes that grow in my back garden.

Low Impact
As well as favouring natural fibres, I monitor water useage carefully. Excess dyes are saved and used to create my Extracts colourways, which are special one-off skeins. Packaging is biodegradable, compostable and UK made, along with recycled void fill materials when available. The studio runs on 100% renewable energy.

Bases
I particularly love to support local producers with a growing emphasis on UK grown yarn and spinning fibre. All yarns are accredited by OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and from mulesing-free farms. Click here for a full list of available bases.
